Online counselling with Zoom

Online counselling with Zoom

Since the beginning of lockdown, because of Covid-19, face to face counselling sessions have, unfortunately, had to stop for the time being. As soon as we are advised by the Government and my professional organisation, BACP, that it is safe to do so, I’ll be recommencing these sessions. Until then, counselling is still taking place. I offer online counselling with Zoom, and telephone counselling.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, I offered these alternative ways of working, and I am qualified and experienced to do so.

As with any other type of counselling session, there are some important considerations to think about, before starting this type of work. An initial assessment session is essential to make sure that this way of working is appropriate for you, and the issues you would like to explore. After lockdown, you can continue with online or telephone sessions, or you can swap to face to face sessions at the Health Dispensary.

Some practical considerations.

It is important that you have a quiet and private space to have your online or telephone counselling session. As with face to face sessions, confidentiality is important for both of us. Some clients use a quiet room in their home, some have used their car.

You also need to consider whether you’re likely to be interrupted, and to think about how you can prevent that happening.

As with face-to-face sessions, punctuality is important, as is commitment to the counselling process.

Technical advice on using Zoom

After we have agreed the time and day of your appointment, I will send you an email containing a link to the appointment. No-one else will have access to the room during your session.

When you click on the link, you will be taken to the waiting area before the session starts. If you haven’t used Zoom previously, you will be asked to download and install the Zoom interface. Follow the easy online instructions and click ‘install’. At the time of your appointment, you will be allowed access to the Zoom session. You’ll need to use your webcam and microphone.

Booking an appointment

Contact me for further details about arranging your first session. If you leave a message, I will get back to you within 24 hours (except weekends and Bank Holidays). My usual session fees and cancellation policy apply.
